There is something beautifully honest about the personality and emotion conveyed in those initial strokes of a sketch which is nearly
impossible to retain in the final drawing. For this reason, when telling a story, I enjoy allowing the illustration to unfold, moment by moment, in the same way that a story does without leaning too much on my eraser to correct mistakes made along the way. The result is a visual that feels more in line with the whimsical, messy, and unexpected
nature of our daily lives than the mask of perfection we are often tempted to hide behind.
